Spark It Up Education Grant
Overview
One of the most pressing needs for persons pursuing higher education today is funding. The task is even greater for those who are mentally capable, but financially challenged. There are thousands of individuals who are simply not advancing due to their socio-economic challenges. The Spark It Up Education Grant, was created specifically to help make a change in situations like those.
About
The fund was conceptualized by Tricia ‘Sparkiebaby’ Spence aka Sparks. Sparks has a passion for enabling others to reach their full potential. She believes that, when and if possible we should endeavour to help others along life’s journey.
Sparks’ viral commentary, for Ms. Jamaica Universe (Davina Bennett) at the Ms. Universe 2017 pageant, gave birth to the now popular “steam fish and okra body” and “yaaas goodie,” slogans. From that, Sparks started a clothing line from which part proceeds would assist students in financial need.
The first grant was awarded in April 2019.
Now in November 2019, Sparks has partnered with National Bakery Company, a company synonymous with Jamaican quality and pride, to extend the life of the Spark It Up Grant.
